The Disintegration of Alinora

As the guards try to catch Johnathan Sinas tries to block them from getting to him. Guards seemed to appear out of nowhere, the group had not noticed the increased presence of guards earlier that day. The deaths of several people in the street the day before had the citizens on edge and Stella Copper among other nobles had requested an increased presence of city guard to deter this type of lawlessness. Johnathan leapt onto the back of Cleetus and started fleeing down the alley.

Out in the street a guard approached the magically disguised Alinora. Alinora quickly dropped the disguise and no longer looked like Johnathan. The guard already on edge had been mid thrust with his spear, and the point caught Alinora in the side. Alinora tried to protest her innocence but the guard was determined to arrest her. Rather than risk more wounds Alinora surrendered rather than risk more injuries. She tried to convince the guard she was innocent but he was not listening.

Johnathan rounded the corner and spurred Cletus through the alley. He glanced back to see if anybody was giving chase and was caught by surprise when several guards stepped into the alley. Two wizards that were part of the city guard cast web spells covering the gnome rogue and Cleetus the Cow.

Sinas took a swing at one of the guards and narrowly missed. The guard took a step back and readied his spear as more guards including the head wizard of the city guard appeared. Sinas suddenly found himself covered in sticky webs. Sinas tried to escape with a teleport spell but unable to judge distance he didn’t teleport far enough. Soon he found his body could not move, the wizard had cast a spell that stopped him from moving. As Johnathan tried to escspe he found that he was in the same predicament as Sinas, no matter how hard he tried to will his body to move he could not.

All of the members of the group, except Vorden, were taken into custody. They were held in cells while Vorden went to speak with the captain of the guards. Vorden tried to get the group released but the captain refused. Then Vorden’s mother and father showed up.

Meanwhile Sinas found that he was in a cell with an Antimagic field and he could not cast any spells. One of the Xavier family members showed up to look at the prisoners. Alinora trying to bribe the groups way out suggested that the guards could have all of their money in exchange for letting them go. This resulted in the guards searching all of their packs and not only finding their money but also finding the blueprints to the Xavier estate and Alinora’s purple heartstone. Xavier took both. Alinora pleaded with him not to take the last thing her mother had given her before dying but Xavier refused. Alinora was not in an antimagic cell and used her misty step ability to leap out of the cell and stab Xavier in an effort to steal the gem. As she grabbed at his hand to take them gem Xavier cast disintegrate. Alinora was turned to dust.

The members in the cells were coming to terms with Alinora’s sudden death when Xavier threw out one last insult. He told the guards to let the group go. He said that for all of his efforts in trying to slow down the investigation and Vorden’s persistence he had no been successful, but the group had. This last incident had proven that the group was more hinderance than benefit, and to incompetent to accomplish anything.

The group was released. Vorden’s father took him home and spoke to him about his great grandfather’s legacy. He then gave Vorden his great grandfather’s Sun Blade. Meanwhile Johnathan and Sinas went looking for Cleetus who had gotten lost. As Shadow and Thejun left the jail Vorden’s mother was waiting to talk with them.
