Shadows in Leistar

DIVERGENT CHICKENS

It had been a decent enough job, running escort duties for Norrine Darri and her grain caravan. It was two weeks away from Leistar but it paid better than some of the other jobs Aust, Blueterion, Morisha, Quack!, and Shadow had previously done. It had been a bit boring but not every job could have bandits or goblin attacks. Norrine had been quite pleased that there had been no trouble. Now the five guards sat in the Hard Iron, a small tavern situated in the long-mill quarter of the city. It was a clean enough place, quiet, and not too expensive. The group were not friends, rather a collection of people that had gotten along well enough that they thought it might be worthwhile working together again. Now they just needed a job.

After a while they decided to look for some work in the morning and went out into the streets. A few moments after stepping outside a gnome in a wheelchair with a strange assortment of gears, and gauges came to a stop in front of the group.

"Oh dear, it appears the transitory mana valve is malfunctioning. Would any of you be so kind as to give me a push" asked the gnome. Aust agreed to push the gnome and the rest of the group just started walking with them. The gnome's name was Fennelghastshelbibarg, but told the group to call him Fen. Fen said that he believed he was being followed and pointed to some shadows that seemed to be moving strangely. Once it was mentioned the group now saw it as well. As the group tried to get a closer look the shadows attacked.

The shadowy creatures seemed to have little substance when looking at them but when they were hit by sword or axe there was some resistance which indicated some sort of body. Shadow, a monk from Eldoria, punched one of the creatures and found a black ichor sticking to his hand. When hit the shadow creatures seemed to lose some of their substance and grew smaller. When finally defeated the shadows seemed to fall apart and drop forming a strange shadowy pool that seemed water like in the way drained away on the street.

Once the fight was over the group took Fen to his shop where he rewarded the group for their help. Fen told the group that he believed a tiefling wizard apprentice named Razemfire was to blame for the attack. Razemfire had stolen Fen's grandmothers tools, something Fen believed were priceless. Fen had complained to the city watch where he found out that Razemfire had stolen from others and there was a bounty of 200gp for anybody that captured him. Fen was certain that Razemfire was trying to get revenge for reporting him to the city watch. Fen offered to pay the group over and above the 200gp bounty if they could take care of Razemfire. The group had their first job.
