On the Run

The group was stunned. Morthos had explained that Maurice, the son of Lord Milgrod was his boyfriend. They had been lovers and when Lord Milgrod found out he had tried to have Morthos killed. Maurice explained that shortly after Morthos left he heard his father talking to Fanaenra. She told Lord Milgrod that Maurice was not in fact his son. Maurice's mother had an affair with Stranax the last of the Golden Heroes. Maurice was Stranax's son and that his sacrifice could bring Milgrod and Fanaera immortality and power. That is when Maurice escaped from his father's estate and went into hiding. People have been trying to capture him ever since.

The group decided to leave immediately. As they were leaving a large group of the Red Night Cabal mercenaries yell at the group to stop and hand over Maurice. The group ran into the forest. Bob cast pass without trace to try and hide the groups movements as they ran. Then a geyser exploded from the ground disorienting Rayla. Bob cast fog cloud to give them some cover. A disoriented Rayla got separated from the group. The rest of the group kept running deeper into the forest though they knew it was dangerous. A few mercenaries caught up with them but the group quickly outmatched them and started running again.

The sound of massive beating wings driving through the air could be heard from above, it was the Ashen Manticore. About a quarter mile from where the group was flames erupted from the Ashen Manticore setting the forest on fire. The group was running but they could not outrun the flying fiery Ashen Manticore. To make matter worse the Red Night Cabal was closing in on the group. In desperation Morthos decided to use hios dimension door spell to get him and Maurice further ahead. Then when Morthos went to cast the spell a strange light emanated from Norbert's staff of heroism. Norbert was channeling power into Morthos's spell.

The became powerful enough that the entire group could pass through. Instead of the spell taken them a quarter mile Norbert's energy had increased the distance. They were on the road and not far from Firefield. Most of them had escaped. Rayla and Ngarius were missing. They would go to the city and figure out how to find Rayla and Ngarius. They could only hope that they were not captured.
