Dinner and an Ambush

Vorden was not entirely happy about having dinner with his family, his contempt for his mother apparent with every word he spoke to her. When dinner seemed to be getting more tense Alinora tried to change the tone of the conversation by reciting some poetry. First Alinora recited an elegant haiku about Vorden’s mother and followed that with an equally flattering poem about his father. Her final poem was about Vorden’s brother. In an attempt to lighten the mood, and stick up for her friend Vorden, her poem about Vorden’s brother was scathing. Vorden’s sister and the group were the only ones to laugh, and it was clear that the poem had displeased Vorden’s father and Vorden.

Mercifully dinner ended. Vorden went to speak with his parents while the rest of the group went with Vorden’s sister Laura. After the tense dinner the group decided to go out into the town and have some fun. Vorden joined them and they went to a local tavern. On the way a thief tried to steal from Vorden and Vorden gave chase. As soon as Vorden disappeared around a corner the rest of the trap was launched. A group of thugs attacked the group.

Vorden gave chase through the alleys unaware in the moment that behind him a group of ambushers were blocking alleys to keep him separate from his friends. In the street the thugs attacked. Thejun wild shaped into a brown bear and attacked. Alinora and Shadow stayed close to Laura to protect her from being injured. Shadow attacked with quick hard-hitting strikes while Thejun in bear form ganshed and clawed at the attackers. Alinora stood by Laura’s casting an enlarge spell on Thejun in bear form. Thejun in bear form became a giant creature the took up most of the street. The attackers were shocked at what was happening.

Meanwhile Vorden kept chasing but the thief was quick and managed to slip away. It was only when he turned around and started back towards the group that he realized what was happening. His thought turned to his sister and the danger she faced. With a sense urgency and rage, Vorden raced towards the group and his sister having to dodge around the obstacles that had been set out. He arrived back in the street to see Shadow land a devastating kick sending his opponent unconscious. Therjun in bear form mauled the last attacker, while Alinora knives ready stood guard to Laura.

Fortunately, nobody was badly hurt but the attack worried Vorden. The attackers seem to know not to attack him and targeted the group. They obviously were unaware of his sister’s presence. It suggested that the attackers were not locals, as anybody from the city would have likely known his sister. Had they targeted the group as a way to get to Vorden without causing him harm, an act that would bring them a lot of trouble. It was clear that they had stumbled into something far more dangerous than they initially thought.
