A Not so Ghostly Encounter
Session 3
NEW CAMPAIGN

After defeating the menacing bugbear, the group searched the campsite, its bonfire casting flickering shadows on the rock walls. Amidst the scattered belongings and remnants of a hasty goblin meal, they found an old Dharetti stone tablet half-buried in the dirt. Covered in ancient, indecipherable runes, the tablet seemed to pulse with a strange, otherworldly energy. They found a handful of gold and a strange brass key, that was double sided. The group had three possible ways out of the caverns: a dark, narrow passage to the north, a winding, downward path to the east, and a seemingly well-trodden tunnel to the west.
Opting to follow some of the goblins, they crept down the western tunnel, the air growing colder and damper with each step. The soft patter of water dripping from the stalactites above echoed around them. Suddenly, a ghostly figure sprinted across the tunnel and disappeared into a wall. As they stood frozen, the clinking of chainmail and the faint whispers of unseen beings surrounded them. Vorden, the dragonborn paladin, called out to the spirit, his voice unwavering. In a hollow, otherworldly tone, the ghost warned of imminent danger and urged them to leave.
Determined to gather more information, Vorden asked about the nature of the danger and the way back to the city. The spirit's reply was a deafening scream that reverberated through the tunnels, causing a small tremor in the ground. The sudden flash of lightning revealed the ghost's twisted, anguished expression. Some of the group turned back, their courage faltering, but Sinas, the goliath cleric, remained steadfast. With a keen eye, Sinas noticed that the ghost had footprints—an unusual detail for an ethereal being.
As the goblin mage's illusion was revealed, the group found themselves surrounded by snarling goblins, their eyes filled with malice. The tension was palpable, but the adventurers were ready for the challenge.
Vorden, stood with his gleaming shield and sword. He roared a battle cry that echoed through the cavern, invoking the power of his divine patron. With a swift and powerful strike, his blade cleaved through the goblin ranks, leaving a path of devastation. His radiant aura bolstered the group's morale, and his shield intercepted blows that would have otherwise felled his comrades.
Sinas, the goliath cleric, channeled the divine energy of his deity. His mace glowed with a holy light as he swung it in wide arcs, smashing goblins left and right. He spoke a quick prayer asking for protection for his allies.
Thejun, the gnome druid, tapped into the primal forces of nature. He used his spells with masterful precision stopping goblins with his potent poison spray.
Sniddet, the gnome sorcerer, wove intricate patterns in the air with his hands, conjuring arcane forces. His eyes glowed with magical intensity as torrent of flames erupted from his fingertips, incinerating goblins.
Johnathan, the halfling rogue, moved like a shadow through the fray. His small stature and nimble movements made him a difficult target for the goblins. With precise and deadly strikes, his daggers found weak points in the goblins' armor. He expertly navigated the battlefield, striking from behind and disappearing before the goblins could react. His cunning and stealth ensured that the group's enemies were always one step behind.
Shadow, the human monk, was a blur of motion. His disciplined training allowed him to strike with lightning-fast precision. His fists and feet became deadly weapons, delivering rapid and powerful blows that incapacitated goblins in seconds. He moved with a fluid grace, dodging attacks and countering with devastating force. His inner calm and focus inspired his comrades, and his unyielding resolve kept the group's spirits high.
The battle was fierce, but the group's combined skills and unwavering determination led them to victory. The goblins lay defeated, their ambush thwarted. The adventurers stood amidst the aftermath, their camaraderie strengthened by their shared triumph.
Retracing their steps, they found a path leading upwards, which opened into an ancient, abandoned underground city. Dust and cobwebs clung to the crumbling stone buildings, their once-grand facades now reduced to ruins. As they walked through the eerily silent streets, they couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. At the city's center, they discovered a fountain with a statue perched upon a pillar. Johnathan's keen eyes spotted a hidden button, and Sinas, with a mix of curiosity and bravado, pressed it.
With a grinding sound, the stone statue came to life, its eyes glowing with an eerie light. The group quickly engaged the animated guardian, their combined skills and teamwork enabling them to defeat the statue with relative ease. As the dust settled, they stood victorious, and it was then they noticed the slot for an oddly shaped key.
