A Job for the Birds

The searched the alley looking for any clues that might indicate where Roland had gone. The city guard had long left and the group looked for anything that they might have missed. Bob was able to locate some tracks and signs of a struggle and the group decided to follow this lead. At the end of the long alley was a large warehouse, on the warehouse by the door somebody had carved a snake symbol into the wood. The men that had followed Roland out of the tavern had snake tattoos leading the group to believe that Roland had been taken into this warehouse. Rayla looked into the only window that they could see while others listened at the door to see if they could hear anything.

Leomarvis quietly climbed up onto the roof of the building to see if he could find an alternate way in. Bob, Morthos, Addelin and Argus decided to try sneaking in and seeing if there was anybody inside, while Rayla and Norbert waited outside. Once on the warehouse roof Leomarvis tried to leap across another alley to get a better view of the upper floors of the warehouse. He flew across the alley and grabbed a large drainpipe, but the pipe was old and the nails holding it up pulled away from the building. Leomarvis and the drain pipe clattered to the ground.

The noise outside caused by Leomarvis alerted people inside. The people turned out to be kenku, a people with crow like heads, and feathers covering there wingless human like bodies. The kenku spoke in a strange jilted speech and a couple went outside to investigate. Outside Rayla and Norbert heard the noise made by Leomarvis's fall and ran to see what happened. Rayla and Norbert were helping Leomarvis up when the two kenku thieves rounded the corner and started firing arrows at them.

Inside a fight broke out with the five remaining kenku thieves and the four members inside. Despite being outnumbered the group quickly started winning the battle with Argus leading the charge. His powerful swings with the greatsword sending the kenku thieves scrambling. Addelin swung her mace knocking a thief to the ground while Morthos and Bob sneaked around behind the thieves to flank them. Morthos used dissonant whispers to incapacitate one Kenku. Bob went to leap over a crate but instead of wood the crate was flesh like, and the mimic grabbed a hold of Bob and bit him. Bob tried to pull himself free but the mimic held tight. Morthos seeing what was happening to Bob went to try and free his friend from the creatures grasp.

Outside the kenku thieves had badly wounded Norbert and Rayla, while Leomarvis was wounded from his fall. Norbert let loose a barrage of magic missiles while Leomarvis fired arrows back at the attackers. Inside the warehouse Morthos attacked the mimic but found himself also caught in the creatures grasp and being bitten. Bob and Morthos were badly injured and fighting for their lives while Addelin and Argus fought the remaining kenku thieves.

A firebolt from Rayla felled one of the kenku thieves outside and the last thief was taken out by a second barrage of Norbert's magic missiles. Addelin and Argus working together managed to defeat the remaining kenku and then rushed over to help their friends. Bob and Morthos managed to pull away from the mimic's grip and the group quickly killed the hideous monster. The group badly injured were taken a moment to recover when they heard some noises coming from the upper area of the warehouse.
